Letter to Our Readers — Denver Dive Sets Launch Party for November 6th at Illegal Pete’s South Broadway

Dear beloved readers,

Denver Dive is throwing a party!

A little over a year ago, a group of longtime Denver-based journalists came together with an idea. Fueled by an intense passion for this city they have made their home and a desire to provide that city with real stories written by real people, that group decided this city deserved a publication the people of Denver could see themselves in. Over the course of many months, many brainstorming sessions spent perfecting a vision that felt so clear yet still so far away, gathering the right people, fostering the right relationships, that idea started to become reality. After nearly six-months of planning, backlogging stories, connecting the right dots, that idea finally took shape, became something that this city can celebrate and be proud of because it is a reflection of itself. That idea, that long-held dream became Denver Dive.

We officially launched on April 30th, almost six months ago. We have spent those six months building the foundation for this publication to be able to reach the heights we know it can reach. That foundation is comprised completely of the stories we’ve been able to tell about the people that live in Denver and none of it would be possible without you, our dear readers. Since we’ve launched we’ve been able to talk to the people that make up this city’s favorite bands, that cook its most beloved food, that mix its favorite cocktails, host its most exciting events, run the local businesses that make this city strong, that design the clothes its people wear to show off who they really are.

We’ve been able to cover so much in such a short amount of time and its impossible to pick favorites. Thomas Rutherford has done deep dives into some of the most celebrated new music festivals in the city such as Porchfest and Blucifer’s First Rodeo and had conversations with such artists as Sunstoney, Chroma Lips, Jesus Christ Taxi Driver and so many more. Colin Wrenn’s spent time in the kitchens of such beloved restaurants as Shish Kabob Grill, Alma Fonda Fina’s spin off Taquería Alteño, Carrera’s Tacos and more, talked to recent James Beard award winner Penelope Wong and questioned the relevance of the Michelin star in this day and age. Kym Drapcho has celebrated street style in Denver with her on going series Denver Street Style Diaries, spoken to drug policy attorney Josh Kappel about psychedelic regulations, offered her opinion on the state of media in America, and hung out with some of the coolest designers in the city including Ryuju Collective, Can’t Buy Cool Studios and many more. Emily Rodz has kept Denver in the know with her monthly “Dive Picks” series, guides to where to grab the best spooky cocktails in the city and more, had drinks at beloved bars such as Sorry Gorgeous Halloween pop up The Last Dance and the accessibility conscious Brewabilty. These just scratch the surface of all that Dive has been able to cover in its short lifespan and we couldn’t do it without you, our readers. Because of you, this is just the beginning.

Now, we are finally ready to celebrate that beginning! On November 6th, we at Denver Dive are throwing a party at Illegal Pete’s on South Broadway to celebrate our launch, all that we’ve been able to do so far and all that we will be able to do in the future. We’ve been planning this since day one and we are so excited to finally be able to make it happen. Festivities are planned to kick off at 6pm and the night will feature sets from some of the coolest bands in the city including shadow work, Sunstoney and Sour Magic. The night will be MC’d by local drag queen Cobra Delamor and will feature games, drinks, dancing and a whole lot of good times. Attendees will receive a voucher that will cover any purchase made at Pete’s up to $12 so come on down, eat, drink, dance, laugh, be merry with us! Nothing Dive does would be possible without you, our readers, so come and celebrate what we have built together. A link to the RSVP can be found below. We can’t wait to see you there!

Love,

The Denver Dive Team

Co-founder & Editor

Originally from outside of Nashville, Thomas Rutherford has lived in Colorado for over 13 years with eight of those spent living in the heart of Denver. In that time, he’s fallen in love with the music, the food, the art and most of all the people that call the Front Range home. When he’s not writing, he can usually be found going to shows all across town, playing music with friends, enjoying a nice cold beer, reading as much as he can get his hands on and chilling with his cat, Ripley. Bringing along a celebrated history as a music journalist in Denver, Thomas believes that now is the perfect time for a new voice for the city. Welcome to Denver Dive.
