SUPACHAN creates art that bridges the gap between the world we see and the world we imagine. Her newest art exhibition, “Dream Logic,” serves as a curated representation of that bridge, balancing expert line-work with abstract shapes, realistic flora with “psylly” creatures and environmental symbolism with portals to the mystical subconscious.
Dream Logic opens at Decadent Art Gallery on June 5, kicking off this month’s First Friday celebration. The exhibition is on display until July 11. Mirroring the organic growth throughout the collection, the artist seeks to plant positive thought-seeds in the mind of her audience, the ultimate reminder to celebrate our natural world and nurture our inner landscape.
Chandler Condon, the artist behind SUPACHAN, mixes insatiable wonder with environmental stewardship, informed by a Bachelor’s in Natural Resources and Sustainability, a B.F.A. in Illustrative Design and a life-long appreciation for otherworldly whimsy. Her portfolio of colorful, layered artwork spans mediums from murals and city pianos to technical gear and tangible prints, always starting with a tactile pencil sketch.
While Dream Logic is Condon’s first solo exhibition, her portfolio is prolific, containing both personal artwork and collaborations with high-profile institutions like Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom, BlackStrap and Blazy Susan, each piece a bold stepping stone in the narrative of her imagination.
Condon sat down with Denver Dive to discuss the inspo behind her upcoming collection, the life mantras that guide her art and what her Japan residency taught her about craftsmanship and intuition.
Denver Dive: Do you remember when you first began making art? Can you tell me a little bit about your history as an artist, and what that path looked like?
Chandler Condon: My artistic lineage is rooted first in my grandmother, Kaye Condon. She was the catalyst that sparked my creative flame. We spent hours in her ceramics studio creating freely and without judgment, and those early experiences shaped the way I approach art today with curiosity, playfulness and trust in the process!
DD: When did you realize you wanted to pursue art as a career? Whether it was a big decision or a slow burn, what did that realization or choice look like?
CC: Although I initially chose a different academic path — studying Natural Resources at Colorado State University — that education deeply informs my practice. My work is rooted in ecology, stewardship and a reverence for the natural world. After graduating, I worked in the nonprofit sector, including with Conscious Alliance, an art-based organization that hosts food drives at concerts and festivals. Being surrounded by screen-printed posters and creative activism reawakened something in me. I realized this was the direction I wanted to pursue.
When the pandemic shifted everything in 2020, I took it as a sign to fully commit and returned to school to study illustrative design. That’s where I formally trained in printmaking and fell in love with the tactile, meditative process of screen printing.
My lineage is a blend of informal mentorship, street art experimentation, environmental studies, nonprofit creative culture and formal design training. I ride the line between designer and artist: grounded in craft, driven by community and guided by a deep love for nature and public expression.
DD: Tell us about your upcoming art exhibition and the vision or messages behind it! What did building the collection look like, and how does it fit into your larger journey as an artist?
CC: My upcoming show, Dream Logic at Decadent Art Gallery, is an immersive exploration of psychedelic printmaking, surreal storytelling and the emotional rhythms of growth and transformation! The collection celebrates the interconnectedness of nature, imagination and collective care, inviting viewers into phantasmagorical worlds filled with “psylly” creatures, symbolic portals and vibrant ecosystems that blur the line between the mystical and the familiar.
Building this body of work has been both intuitive and intentional for me. The collection evolved through a balance of meticulous printmaking techniques and spontaneous mark-making, allowing each piece to feel alive!
Being my first solo show, this exhibition definitely feels like an important evolution in my journey as an artist. It expands on themes I’ve explored through murals and illustration like community, nature, mysticism, and positive futures. But it is also pushing further into immersive world-building and personal symbolism which I haven’t had the space to do before! Dream Logic is ultimately an invitation to celebrate curiosity, transformation and the strange beauty of being alive.
DD: Your portfolio mentions that you’re inspired by nature, celebrating the mystical and “phantasmagorical worlds.” What does “phantasmagorical” mean to you? Can you share a little bit about that inspiration and how that ethos shows up in your creative process?
CC: To me, phantasmagorical describes a world that is dreamlike and surreal. My work blends reality, memory, symbolism and imagination. It can feel slightly familiar but also otherworldly, like a vivid dream or a fleeting moment in nature. That ethos shows up the layers of ink and sketching. I try to make my pieces immersive through exaggerating forms, colors and patterns. I want the viewer to be transported to ignite curiosity and connection.
DD: Tell me about your work residency in Japan! What did you learn about yourself as a person and artist? How did that experience change or shape your perspective as an artist?
CC: Japan is such a special place. I was able to do an art residency last September with Studio Kura in a small rice farming beach town called Itoshima, where I did some creative exploration with 12 other international artists. It was such a valuable experience and I was endlessly inspired by rural Japan: biking through the rice paddies, temple hoppin’ and sketching in the jungle, at the beach and in my little studio I shared with my friend from Barcelona, Vale Wilson. We ended up being kindred spirits and became adventure art buddies!
Both being muralistas and illustrators, we found a piece of nice scrap wood, about 3×6 feet, and collaborated on a magical piece that is now hanging in a temple in Itoshima!
The nature, spirit and culture of Japan is now reflected in my art heavily. I try to hold that precise craftsmanship and sacred intuition that is steeped in every part of Japanese culture. I am already applying for more Japanese art residencies now!
DD: What does your dreamiest future look like — as an artist, as a Denver resident, and as a human?
CC: I love it! I have a few entangled life and art mantras which I’d like to continue to deepen in the future and beyond!
They are:
- Celebrate your inner child.
- Nature is church and we should enjoy and protect it. Bikes, ski, etc.
- Celebrate divine feminine energy.
- Plant positive thought seeds for a healthy inner landscape.
Some dreamy dreams of mine is to start printing concert and band posters; making bigger art! (largest mural was 3 stories high but I’m ready to get higher); and more artist collaborations!
DD: Is there anything I didn’t ask about that you want to share with the world?
CC: I want my work to make people giggle, get stars in their eyes and spark imagination! I want it to evoke a sense of celebration for life and expansion of consciousness.
I also have a few collaborations to plug for this show! I’ll have some foil prints with CIK Prints of Boulder, a few Dead Fish Frames collaborations and a new Blazy Susan tray collab.
